Cluny, dans le district de Grand Port, est un village au pied de la montagne Pauline, au nord de Rose Belle.
Le nom de Cluny fut donné par le propriétaire des terres avoisinantes, Alexander Macpherson, qui s’y était établit vers 1855, et y planta de la canne.
Les MacPherson étaient originaires de Cluny en Ecosse.
Ce nom, trouve son origine, en celui de l’Abbaye de Cluny fondée en 910 dans la région de Mâcon en France
